Open Arms Child Development Center

Open Arms Building

Open Arms Child Development Center is located at 2980 Davis Road, next to Jillian Square Apartments (between Peger Road and University Avenue). The facility was constructed in 1999 and was designed specifically to meet the needs of caregivers for infants and young children.

What Is Open Arms Child Development Center?

As our name suggests, we welcome children and their families with open arms. We understand that separation often causes anxiety for children -- and their parents. Our goal is to work with each family to make transition from home to the center a smooth one.

Regular communication with parents is essential. Together, we develop a common set of goals based on each child's needs. Children will be encouraged to grow and learn at their own rate by a caring, loving, nurturing Christian staff. Our staff will work with parents to help each child grow physically, intellectually, socially, emotionally, and spiritually in order to develop confidence, curiosity, and positive relationships with family and community.

Open Arms is based on a proven design for high-quality early childhood education. Both the building and the program are designed to facilitate accreditation by national childcare groups.

We believe that each child is unique and a special child of God. Our center is designed to be safe, stimulating and filled with opportunities for children to interact with one another in small group settings. We offer developmentally-appropriate programs for all children of any race, color, creed, national or ethnic origin.

Since young children learn best through play, experiences are planned to encourage their natural curiosity and eagerness to learn, especially about God's creation. Activities include:

  • stories, language enhancement, listening opportunities
  • music, art, songs, fingerplays
  • science exploration and experimentation
  • large and small muscle development
  • safety, nutrition, and good eating habits
  • dramatic play, puppets, role playing
  • chapel, Bible stories, prayers and appropriate religious experiences
  • problem solving opportunities
  • field trips (as appropriate), special events
