Faith Stepping Stones™

We are a Faith Stepping Stones Church. Our approach to continuous home-based faith education involves blessing each child, gifting the family, and calling parents to the promises they make to God on behalf of their children. Parents return to the altar for eight services of blessing and recommitment at each of the following steps along the path of a young Christian's life.
™ Faith Inkubators

Baptism

Often a parent's first opportunity at understanding the covenant of baptism. It begins with expectant families 3 months before birth with the Pastor and our Nursery Committee.

Entry into Sunday School

As 2 year old little ones prepare to enter Sunday school we have another marvelous opportunity to graft parents into the Christian community.

First Bible

We have a tradition of giving Bibles to our children entering the 3rd grade. It serves as a reminder to parents of the baptismal promise to place in the child's hands the Holy Scriptures.

First Communion

Sixth graders experience their first communion on Maundy Thursday. It is a time to ask youth if they intend to be regular in receiving the sacrament and to ask parents to pledge once again to help their child keep the promise.

Entering Confirmation

Entering the official confirmation program of our church provides a great opportunity to remind parents at the altar once again and ask for their promises of support as their children become young adults before their eyes.

 

Confirmation

Represents the culmination of a two year faith journey and marks the beginning of life instruction (not the end) in our Christian faith.

Entry into High School

Parents are once again asked to affirm their partnership with the church to help their child begin their journey to adulthood and maturing faith.

Graduation

Stepping into the world asks parents to covenant with Zion Lutheran Church for the ongoing support of these young women and men's faith journey and to lift them up in prayer as fellow members of the Body of Christ.
